  • improving cancer treatment and research
  • improved access to centralized care
  • improved care for patients with rare cancer
  • monitoring the quality of cancer treatment and research
  • involvement of patients and patient organizations
  • connection to an international bank of tumor samples
  • emphasis on supportive and palliative care
  • cooperation within the European network of cancer centers

OECI is a non-governmental non-profit organization, created in 1979 to promote greater cooperation between European cancer centers and institutes. The founders developed a framework aimed at promoting effective partnerships across Europe, regardless of language barriers and traditional heterogeneity in care and research. OECI is a network that currently brings together 102 organizations working together to reduce fragmentation and provide all European cancer patients opportunity to receive the best care available. In order to better achieve its goals and spread the innovation process among its members and abroad, the organization works closely with the European Cancer Organization, the European Coalition for Cancer Patients, the European Association for Cancer Research and the European Pathological Society.
